Psychology Assistant Internship 2026
We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist Intern to begin a placement in September 2026.
Eligibility:
Individuals currently studying a BSc or MSc in Psychology (or related human science)
OR
Individuals who have completed psychology/human science to at least a degree level and wish to build on their clinical skills.
Applicants would need to have the right to work in the UK (we are unable to offer sponsorship opportunities).
Applicants would need to be able to work in the HBF offices for the duration of the placement - this is not a remote role.
Placement summary:
The placement is within a human rights charity providing specialised care to survivors of human cruelty, state torture and human trafficking. The therapy department specialises in offering trauma focused interventions and as part of the placement you will:
- Engage in self directed learning regarding trauma focused therapy.
-Complete clinical Needs and Risks assessments of the client group.
-Conduct brief psychological interventions for symptoms management of post traumatic stress disorder and other psychological presentations such as Depression and Anxiety.
-Support research within the department (i.e. data collection or date entry)
- Case work for clients of the organisation.
- Administrative tasks and professional liaison.
- Engage in Multidisciplinary and multi-agency work across departments and organisations.
You will:
- Receive clinical supervision from a clinical psychologist within the therapy team.
-Receive specialist training in working with asylum seekers and refugees affected by trauma.
- Gain a strong understanding of human rights and the advocacy work within it.
- Gain a strong understanding about the legal, housing, integration and health needs of individuals seeking asylum and refugees.
- Develop trauma informed clinical expertise to support survivors of human trafficking.
- Work with psychologist, psychotherapists, assistant psychologists and researchers within the therapy team.
- Be part of a warm and welcoming team in a nurturing and supportive environment.
- Receive travel and lunch expenses * (*capped amount).
Successful applicants will need to be DBS checked, have occupational health clearance and references checked.
