The Helen Bamber Foundation's Trauma Centre

In October 2024, after a two year journey to find our new home, we proudly opened the UK’s first major Trauma Centre dedicated to the rehabilitation of survivors of trafficking and torture - a global beacon of best practice, healing, and hope.

We are facing an unprecedented rise in demand for our services, with over 130,000 survivors in the UK. We simply could not welcome the increasing number of survivors seeking care in our previous home. Our new state-of-the-art sanctuary is designed to meet the complex, urgent needs of those rebuilding their lives after extreme trauma.

A physical embodiment of trauma-informed, holistic care

Our new Centre is a comforting, dignified, welcoming environment for healing and recovery. Survivors visiting the Trauma Centre for the first time have described the space as “beautiful,” “modern,” and “like nature.”

Co-designed with survivors, the Centre spans two floors with 13 private therapy and legal rooms, 4 doctors’ rooms, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.  Some of our bespoke features include:

  • Adjustable lighting and circular seating to help clients feel comfortable and to support open communication
  • The doctors’ rooms designed for medical assessments and medico-legal reports, to help clinicians identify scars and other injuries
  • Unique, non-institutional decor in every room

IMPACT – To improve our direct care, extend our reach to underserved areas, and support faster, more effective recovery for survivors in London and nationwide.

  • Our new Trauma Centre will enable us to expand the delivery of holistic therapeutic, medical, casework, and legal support significantly.
  • Our new dedicated community space, will serve as a hub for trauma-informed clinical and legal expertise, enabling us to train more statutory service providers, including the police and NHS practitioners.

Next Steps

We are incredibly grateful to the community that has come together to make the Trauma Centre a reality – from our generous funders and sponsors to the architects and designers who provided building designs free of charge, to the suppliers offering nearly £250,000 worth of construction and refurbishment pro bono. However, we know that the work is not over.

To ensure that we can deliver care to as many survivors as possible, we rely on the kindness of our supporters. Your generosity will allow us to maximise the potential of our new space, and save the lives of more Survivors than ever. By supporting the new Trauma Centre at the Helen Bamber Foundation, you are playing a vital role in helping Survivors on their journey to recovery.

We would love for you to come and see the impact of your support with a tour of the Trauma Centre. To find out more or speak with a member of our team, please get in contact here.
