OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Helen Bamber Foundation is a busy charity supporting asylum seekers, refugees, victims of human trafficking and other human rights violations. Our specialist team of therapists, doctors and legal experts hold an international reputation for providing therapeutic care, medical consultation, legal protection, and practical support. The Helen Bamber Foundation is committed to safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
We are looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join the therapy team working within a partnership jointly run between the Helen Bamber Foundation and the Hummingbird Project. The Hummingbird Project supports young asylum seekers and refugees (some of whom are unaccompanied in the UK) with practical support and a group-based programme.
As a Clinical Psychologist within the HBF/Hummingbird partnership, you will report directly to the Senior Clinical Psychologist working within the project, and the Director of Therapy at the Helen Bamber Foundation responsible for the service. You will support them in providing a comprehensive range of therapeutic interventions to clients of the Hummingbird Project. This role will primarily include delivery of highly specialised psychological assessments for both clinical and medico-legal purposes, and lead the delivery of wellbeing group sessions for young people aged 14-25. There may also be the opportunity for the delivery of 1:1 evidence-based therapies and supervision of assistant psychologists, where required. At times, the role may include input into policy, research and fundraising and delivery of consultancy and training.
We are looking for someone who is committed to working therapeutically with young people seeking asylum or who have refugee status, who experience trauma spectrum disorders and other psychological difficulties as a result of surviving human rights abuses, separation from family, and/or post- migration stressors. In addition to proven experience in working therapeutically with this client group, the candidate will have a passion for human rights work beyond the individual client work. This role requires the ability to react and respond creatively and appropriately to the needs of both charities. If required (based on level of previous experience), you will be expected to attend the Helen Bamber Foundation office in London for up to three weeks during your first few weeks to attend inductions and other trainings (your travel costs will be met).
