On behalf of our President, Emma Thompson and the Helen Bamber Foundation, we would like to thank everyone who came out to watch The Conversation on 12th October 2017. This year’s event explored the theme of ‘creative survival’ through inspiring conversations between actor, writer and campaigner Stephen Fry, BBC’s chief international correspondent, Lyse Doucet and the brave clients of the Helen Bamber Foundation.
The evening began with an in-depth introduction to ‘creative survival’ from Emma Thompson who unpacked society’s misconceptions surrounding the common phrase of survival of the fittest. Emma then welcomed Lyse Doucet (BBC), TJ Birdi (HBF) and Celia (Client) to the stage to provide their expert opinions on the power and resilience of the human spirit. Following this, Stephen Fry sat down one to one with a client to discuss the atrocities that brought her to seek asylum in the UK and her long recovery journey to reclaim her life.
The evening ended with a showstopping performance by Novello Award-nominated singer, Nerina Pallot and clients. The performance included two pieces from our clients’ home countries alongside an original Nerina Pallot piece, Human.
The Helen Bamber Foundation would once again like to express our greatest gratitude to The Pureland Foundation for their generous support of this year’s event, thank you.
