The Helen Bamber Foundation is a UK-based human rights organisation
We help to mend what was broken in a safe and supportive environment
We help people who have experienced torture, trafficking and other forms of cruelty.
‘I am what I am today because of Helen Bamber Foundation.’ – Anita, survivor.
Journey travelled to exhibit in Vienna, Austria in Februrary 2008 at the invitation of the Vienna Forum to Fight Human Trafficking. The forum acted as the culmination of the United Nations Global Iniative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT) project.
Helen Bamber OBE, Dr Michael Korzinski, Emma Thompson and staff at the Helen Bamber Foundation curated the exhibition at the centrally-located Heldenplatz at the Hofburg, Vienna, receiving 800-1,000 visitors per day who came to learn more about Elena’s story.
The United Nations works to bring disparate aid and charity groups into worldwide coalition, seen nowhere more effectively than in combating human trafficking. As well as UN.GIFT, we are lucky enough to receive ongoing funding from the UN Fund for Victims of Torture (UNFVT) for our work with survivors of torture and related human rights violations.
‘People just don’t want to know about this issue – it’s hidden, it’s criminal, it’s perverse and yes, it’s happening on our own doorstep.’
– Emma Thompson
